Because of the extreme heat, a popular trail in California's Yosemite National Park has been temporarily closed.
At Joshua Tree National Park, the park's bighorn sheep are getting "undisturbed access" to the park's surface water thanks to the temporary closure of a trail.
According to the National Park Service, the 49 Palms Trail has been closed since June 1st while wildlife biologists at the park keep tabs on octordle the situation.
The National Park Service warned that the area's herds are increasingly dependent on the oasis spring to survive the summer heat. There will be no reopening until the summer monsoons have brought enough rain to replenish the water supply.
It is possible to hike on other park trails, but the National Park Service (NPS) recommends "extreme caution" and careful planning because temperatures can rise to more than 120 degrees Fahrenheit in exposed areas of park trails during the summer. Hikers are advised to begin their hikes early in the morning and finish by 10 a.m., or to postpone their hikes until after 4 p.m.
